Don't Get Caught Out on Holiday
Your holiday has finally arrived and you wake up in the morning anticipating sun, sand and a wonderfully warm sun. All you have to do is get on the plane and land in Greece – country of the gods and myths. Moreover you look forward to the boat ride to the Greek Islands and the hotel that you will be staying in. Your view of the holiday is one of sublime bliss with nothing that could possibly mar it.
On your way to the airport you feel around in your pockets for the all important tickets, passport and car rental voucher. This is where your holiday takes a nosedive. You have the tickets and the passport, but the car rental voucher is nowhere to be found. Your mind goes into denial: it can’t be happening! Not now!
Once you’ve calmed down a little, you realise that you can get a duplicate voucher at the airport before departing on your Grecian holiday. If all else fails, you can still book a car anyway and pick it up at Athens airport. You eagerly look for the sign that reads car hire Greece. Car rental Greece is the only thing that goes through your head as you walk past all the well-know car rental agencies. At last you find the one you’re looking for and without delay you’re issued with another voucher...
You don’t always have a happy ending to stories such as this one. In many cases you only realise that you have a problem when you get to your destination. If you’ve booked through a reputable agency, your car hire problems should be resolved in short order. There shouldn’t be any significant delay in handing you a car once you’re booking was confirmed on their integrated computer system. However, many countries aren’t as fully developed as Europe and the United States of America. Many countries in Africa, though developing, still face many technological challenges. It is therefore wise to always keep a copy of your booking receipt with your passport and ticket. The same goes for your voucher.
One other thing can go wrong when you’re travelling abroad and you need a rental car: They don’t have the car you specified on the booking sheet. Normally you will be upgraded to a higher class without any extra cost to you. It can, however, happen that you will need to be downgraded. This is where you need to decide your course of action. You can either accept the downgrade, or cancel the booking and go to another agency. Just be careful of any cancellation fees.
Travelling is as much fun as you make it through proper planning and care of documents.
